Youth Harvest Foundation Ghana (YHFG), with support from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), is implementing the From Awareness to Action: A Gender Transformative Approach to SGBV Prevention project, as part of the broader Support to Human Rights, Gender Equality and Civil Society (S(HE)) Project. This gender-transformative initiative is aimed at preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and promoting gender equality and social inclusion in vulnerable communities across Northern Ghana. The project seeks to move communities from awareness to action by increasing awareness of SGBV and discrimination, promoting positive gender norms, improving knowledge of reporting pathways, and encouraging community participation in the prevention and response to SGBV.
The project is being implemented in the West Mamprusi Municipality in the North East Region and selected Senior High Schools in the Upper East Region. Key implementing communities include Wulugu, Gbimsi, and Sayoo/Sandanfong in the West Mamprusi Municipality, where several community-based awareness campaigns and advocacy activities have been carried out.
The project adopts both analogue and digital campaign approaches to educate communities on the forms, causes, prevention strategies, and reporting pathways of SGBV. Through school campaigns, community sensitization sessions, sports-based advocacy, social media campaigns, and stakeholder engagements, the project reaches students, youth, women, traditional and religious leaders, men, and boys, among others.
This project is being carried out in collaboration with CHRAJ and NCCE in the respective regions and districts.
